We recently brought you news that Sinister Six had been dated for November 11th, 2016, and that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 had been pushed back to the summer of 2018, and now we know what’s taking the latter film’s place on Sony’s schedule. Today, in the midst of Comic-Con fervor, it was revealed that the Uncharted adaptation would be taking The Amazing Spider-Man 3‘s spot on June 10th, 2016.
Said Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group president Doug Belgrad:
“June 10 is a great date for Uncharted. It’s just the right place for this exciting action-adventure film.”
An adaptation of the popular Sony Playstation video-game series, Uncharted will follow the adventures of Indiana Jones-esque explorer Nathan Drake. Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) is directing, and the latest iteration of the script is being written by Safe House scribe David Guggenheim. According to Deadline, Mark Wahlberg is being eyed for the lead role of Drake, which is understandable given his star power but not entirely a satisfying pick as far as I’m concerned.
As I detailed here, my personal picks are Bradley Cooper, James Badge Dale and Frank Grillo, though I could also get behind casting an actor like Jake Gyllenhaal. We’ll keep you posted as Sony reveals who will be portraying Nathan Drake in what’s sure to be a major tentpole for the studio.
Are you excited for an Uncharted movie? Or is this adaptation doomed to be as terrible as other video game adaptations we’ve seen in recent years (Need for Speed, anyone?)? And who should take on the role of Drake? Let us know below!
