Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney)
George “Digger” Harkness hails from Australia – as the name of his alter-ego may suggest – specifically the small town of Kurrumburra. Here, he became skilled in the making of boomerangs, before progressing to weaponizing them. Attempting a career as a boomerang performer, Harkness found himself regularly ridiculed by audiences and ultimately turned to a life of crime as a result, assuming the name Captain Boomerang.
Recruited to the Suicide Squad, Harkness was loathed by his team-mates for his abrasive manner, incessant racism and general lack of reliability. In later comic stories, Deadshot caused his death – but Boomerang was soon resurrected, with cybernetic hands.
[zergpaid]Just as every supervillain is the archenemy of somebody, Captain Boomerang is the nemesis of the Flash, having first appeared in Flash #117 in 1960. The original incarnation of his character was killed in 2004, and his son, Owen, assumed his role until Harkness was resurrected. The resurrection briefly afforded Harkness the ability to create weaponised boomerangs entirely from energy, but this gift was shortlived. The New 52 re-launch saw Captain Boomerang face traps, double-crosses and mistrust from his Suicide Squad colleagues, while he was revealed to have been undercover within the unit.
Captain Boomerang has appeared in animation, voiced by Donal Gibson, John DiMaggio, James Patrick Stuart, Greg Ellis, and Nolan North, while the character has featured on the TV show Arrow, played by Nick Tarabay.
Suicide Squad will be his first appearance in cinema.
