Warner Bros./DC’s next stab at a live-action Green Lantern movie is still some FIVE years away, but that hasn’t stopped one keen thesp from putting his name forward. And by name we mean, Photoshopped concept artwork. If you thought Vin Diesel teasing fans over Facebook with enigmatic Marvel updates was the cheekiest usage of social media, then wait until you hear about Tyrese Gibson’s current shenanigans.
Over the course of the last week, the Fast & Furious star has made it his mission to ensure everyone knows he would really quite like to play Green Lantern. Taking to Instagram, he posted a series of conceptual images and fan-created art casting him as the verdant ring bearer:
Shout to @bosslogix so cool! A photo posted by TYRESE (@tyrese) on
The above images are a mere taster of the types of imagery with which Gibson has populated his Instagram feed. You’ve got to hand it to the man, he’s eyed up a character he’d do anything for – or as one of his captions reads “I am fully committed to suiting up for this adventure” – and is vying to make the part his.
Warner’s reboot of the Green Lantern property comes as part of their massive cinematic universe scheduled over the next several years, based around DC’s hottest comic book commodities. As yet, we don’t know who’s slated to direct, write or even star in the pic. However, it’s expected that whomever is cast in the lead, we might see them prior to 2020 in the two-part Justice League movies scheduled for 2017 and 2019.
We’ll keep you posted if and when Tyrese Gibson’s dreams come true, and of course, on any other Green Lantern-related news.
