Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson started a media firestorm earlier today with a statement about the future of Black Adam. He wrote a missive that basically said the character won’t be back any time soon but will be in the future. But fans are mainly focusing on just two little words.

Towards the middle of the statement Johnson praises new DCEU boss James Gunn, saying they’ve “known each other for years and have always rooted for each other to succeed.” So far, nothing out of the ordinary, until the next sentence:

“It’s no different now, and I will always root for DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIG.” Did you see it? In the middle of a post about DC and Black Adam he snuck in “(and Marvel).” While this seems innocuous on first glance these are MCU and DCU fans and they over analyze everything.

Johnson even referenced this in his statement, calling fans “very passionate and vocal.” So, they think he’s trying to keep the door open for something at Marvel. Take a look:

Someone else said “(And Marvel) I’m crying my dawg trying to lock down a marvel movie lowkey.”

Here’s someone who thinks he wasn’t being subtle at all:

Alright maybe that one’s a little much, but you get the point. This person nailed a House of the Dragon reference, which is made by HBO and owned by Warner Bros. Discovery who also happens to own the rights to DC properties. Clever!

This one’s probably the best. (It’s from the car soccer video game Rocket League and also a pretty popular meme).

We’ll be sure to let you know if he actually does change teams.
