Nipping at the heels of this morning’s barnstorming trailer reveal, Empire has pumped out two fresh images for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and this time, the attention is drawn not to Felicity Jones’ battle-ready Jyn Erso, but the supporting Rebels fighting for the same cause.
It’s the latest tidbit to emerge from Empire’s coverage, following up on striking cover reveals and a closer look at the fiery relationship between Darth Vader and Director Orson Krennic, the latter of whom will be portrayed by Bloodline star Ben Mendelsohn. Now, Riz Ahmed takes center stage. In Rogue One, he’ll be assuming the part of Bodhi Rook, an “everyman who finds himself thrust into the middle of historic events.”
Per Empire: “He’s just a guy. He’s someone who is disconcerted by what they’re up against. It makes his decisions and choices much braver.” By the looks of things, Ahmed’s Average Joe has run into a spot of bother in today’s still, and is seemingly negotiating some form of deal (escape plan?) with a formidable alien character.
The second and final of Empire’s images shift the focus to Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen) and Chirrut Îmwe (Donnie Yen), two disparate fighters that pledge allegiance to the Rebels and the Alliance cause. That’s a plight that involves schematics to the Death Star, an armored battle station that begins looming over the tropical planet of Scarif in the trailer below.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is on course to arrive on December 16. Though it’s not expected to do the same business as The Force Awakens, early forecasts predict that the Gareth Edwards-directed pic is tracking for a $130 million opening weekend in North America.
