According to Cinema Blend True Grit star, and Academy Award-nominated actress, Hailee Steinfeld is being considered for the title role in the upcoming Carrie remake. The film entered development only a short time ago, and the script still being written, so consider this very early speculation.
Steinfeld rose to fame with her work as Mattie Ross in True Grit last year and was widely praised as an up-and-coming star. However, since that time she has not been attached to any new projects, except for her rumored consideration for the role of Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming Hunger Games films (which went to Jennifer Lawrence) and being involved in an upcoming Romeo and Juliet movie.
Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, the original Carrie was released in 1976 and told the story of Carrie White, a tormented and outcast teenage girl, who discovers that she possesses psionic powers. Her powers grow in strength as she suffers from humiliation and abuse at the hands of her peers, teachers, and mother which culminates in a tragic ending. The film was directed by Brian De Palma and starred Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie, both of whom were nominated for Academy Awards for their roles in the film.
Steinfeld was excellent in True Grit and with an Oscar-nominated background it’s difficult to picture her in a film that also has the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Megan Fox attached to it. Also, at 14 she may be too young to play the part, as Carrie is a high school senior in the story (though it will take at least a year before production on the film can begin).
What do you think? Is this a real possibility or pure fiction?
