Director Rich Moore has told Coming Soon that he originally wanted a cameo from the character Tron in his recent animated hit Wreck-It Ralph. Unfortunately, that didn’t quite work out but that doesn’t mean that the director won’t try again in the sequel. Check out what he had to say below on not including Tron in the first film and why it may work out for the next one.
“I can’t specifically remember why that didn’t happen,” he said of the scrapped Tron appearance in the first Wreck-It Ralph. “Of course, with a sequel, I’m hoping that we can find a way to see Tron himself in that movie.” It seems like a perfect fit, especially as both are Disney properties.
“We’ll really come up with something good for Mario to do [in the next film],” he said to Moviehole. “To be able to present him in the sequel, would be great.”
Of course, we have no idea how Tron or Mario will factor into the plot, that is if they’re able to be included at all. We still don’t know too much about the sequel but Moore has said that he wants to explore online gaming and home games and that he wants to bring things up to date. It sounds intriguing but again, until we know more it’s hard to picture how Tron and Mario will be used.
Wreck-It Ralph was a hit with critics and at the box office, and deservedly so. It was an excellent animated film (one of the best I’ve seen in years) and a sequel is an absolute no brainer at this point. Given the creativity and enjoyment that Moore’s film gave audiences, I can’t wait to see where the cast and crew will take things with the sequel.
As always, we’ll keep you posted when more details on the Wreck-It Ralph sequel emerge.
