Earlier this month, the final trailer arrived for dystopian young adult sequel Insurgent. Except, it wasn’t the last one, because Summit has now dropped another minute-long preview ahead of the film’s March 20th release. As before, the flick stars Shailene Woodley as resilient teen Tris, who is now on the run with the hunky Four (Theo James). Now wanted fugitives, the pair will once more try to escape the clutches of Kate Winslet’s tyrannical leader, Jeanine.
Following original director Neil Burger’s exit, this second chapter in The Divergent Series is helmed by R.I.P.D.‘s Robert Schwentke. A direct follow-on from the first outing, Insurgent will trace Tris and Four as they are hunted down by those pesky Erudite elite. What’s paramount in this final teaser is that Tris’ newly-cropped haircut warrants its own special introduction, and that there will undoubtedly be more action, romance and brilliantly-bad one-liners from Winslet.
Climbing aboard the sequel train alongside Woodley, James and Winslet are returning stars Jai Courtney, Ansel Elgort and Miles Teller. Introducing franchise newcomers Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer and Birdman‘s Naomi Watts, Insurgent will arrive in theaters on March 20th.
THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
