Trespass is the newest film from director Joel Schumacher. The man has had a bit of a hit or miss career, with some great films like Phone Booth, 8MM and Tigerland, but also some downright awful movies like Twelve and The Number 23. Oh, and he also single handedly killed the Batman franchise, until Nolan came along.
On October 14th, Schumacher will deliver Trespass, which actually looks promising. Nicolas Cage (ok, so maybe not that promising) and Nicole Kidman lead the thriller which co-stars Liana Liberato, Cam Gigandet and Ben Mendelsohn.
Truthfully, I’m optimistic about the film because of two things, the plot, and two of the co-stars. Mendelsohn, who actually worked with Cage before on Knowing, gave an excellent performance in Animal Kingdom and it will be great to see him back on the big screen again.
Then there’s Liana Liberato, who I thought was fantastic in Trust. At only 15 she has an exceptionally promising career and I can’t wait to see her again in another film.
There’s also the plot, which seems like a good fit for Schumacher. The synopsis uses words like betrayal, deception, temptation and scheming, all of which usually make for a good thriller. Plus, Cam Gigandet can craft a pretty good villain, Volchok anyone?
Judging by the trailer, the film actually looks quite good. It reminds me a bit of Phone Booth and from what I see here, Trespass should be a fun, thrilling and entertaining ride.
The only unknown is Schumacher. Will this be one of his duds, or will the flakey director score another hit?

In a private, wealthy community, priority is placed on security and no exception is made for the Miller family’s estate. Behind their pristine walls and manicured gardens, Kyle (Nicolas Cage), a fast-talking businessman, has entrusted the mansion’s renovation to his stunning wife, Sarah (Nicole Kidman).
But between making those big decisions and keeping tabs on their defiant teenage daughter (Liana Liberato), Sarah often finds herself distracted by a young, handsome worker (Cam Gigandet) at their home. Nothing is what it seems, and it will take a group of cold-blooded criminals led by Elias (Ben Mendelsohn), who have been planning a vicious home invasion for months, to bring the Miller family together. When they storm the manor, everyone is tangled up in betrayal, deception, temptation and scheming. Kyle, Sarah and Avery will take the ultimate risk to make it out with their lives – and their family – intact.
