3) The Coming Of Unicron
Alongside the fact that it might explore the Transformers’ origins, one intriguing shot of the trailer also gives us another hint at the story as it pretty much confirms who the main villain of the movie will be. At one point, we see a ginormous planet-shaped Cybertronian about to chow down on the moon. Which is the second time the Transformers have had it in for Earth’s satellite, after Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Why so obsessed with the Moon, guys?
Planet-eating in the context of Transformers only leads to one name: Unicron, one of the most powerful enemies in Transformers lore. Also known as the Lord of Chaos or the Planet Eater, Unicron has the ability to transform into a mechanical planet. Basically, he’s what would be created if you mixed Marvel’s Galactus with the Death Star. In short, don’t be fooled by his name almost spelling a fairytale horse – he means trouble.
Given that, it seems certain that this is the movie version of Unicron we are seeing here. This would also fit in with what the production team have said about drawing more from the first generation of Transformers, as Unicron dates back to the original animated series.
