There’s finally a full-length trailer for Disney’s Frozen, after years of sparse details and one quick teaser. The film is an animated, musical comedy – akin to the likes of Tangled – based on the Danish fairytale of “the Snow Queen.” Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee are co-directing, based on Lee’s screenplay. For those unfamiliar with the duo, Buck has a lengthly list of Disney titles under his belt, directing Tarzan and aiding in the animation department of others, while Lee co-wrote the screenplay for Wreck-it Ralph.
The trailer is about as cute as you’d expect and introduces the main characters, though I can’t help but to wonder why it doesn’t indicate the level of music that will be in the film. When I first read the cast list, which consists of talents like Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, and Josh Gad, I wondered if the characters would speak at all. I suppose I’ll have to be satisfied with (I assume) about the same amount of songs in Frozen as were in Tangled, because this trailer has really squashed my hope that Frozen would be a full-on musical.
Alan Tudyk also provides his voice in the film as a character referred to as “Duke of Weselton,” whom I don’t think I saw in the trailer. I’m speculating that his character will be the film’s main antagonist, based on (spoiler!) his role in Wreck-it Ralph, even though the trailer didn’t seem to narrow down “the bad guy.” Still frustrated with Tudyk for leaving Suburgatory, I just hope he sings, which I would love to see.
Watch the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments. Does Frozen look promising to you in a Tangled way, or are you wary that it might go down the path of Planes?
