That little baby elephant with the ginormous ears takes flight in today’s magical new preview for Disney and Tim Burton’s live-action Dumbo movie, which arrives hot on the heels of that gorgeous poster which dropped this morning.
Boasting a cast that includes Colin Farrell, Eva Green and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia favorite Danny DeVito as circus ringleader, Max Medici, Burton’s reimagining promises to be a refreshing new take on the old Disney classic, and one which will hopefully achieve the same levels of success as the Mouse House’s other live-action remakes, like Cinderella, The Jungle Book and last year’s smash hit Beauty and the Beast.
But with its all-star cast and adorable title character, Dumbo will no doubt skew toward a younger audience. Although, if Colin Farrell’s to be believed, parents will enjoy this dose of Disney nostalgia just as much as their children do.
Honestly, I was like a child in a sweet shop, I really was, I was so giddy. I had this sustained excitement during the whole thing because the sets we were working on were extraordinary, the story was so sweet, Tim was such a dream, the cast was so lovely. It’s also nice to do something that my children can see.
Though the footage we see in this trailer is certainly promising, I think the jury’s still out on whether Dumbo‘s going to be any good or not. I mean, Tim Burton’s had a pretty iffy career of late and for a long time has been running the risk of pastiching his stripe-y, cartoonishly grotesque style.
Still, with that aforementioned cast, Disney’s latest live action remake should at least be able to draw in big crowds. Especially since it sounds like Dumbo won’t just be a rehash of the original, with a previous plot synopsis telling us that the titular elephant will be sold off to a sinister glitzy entertainment venue known as Dreamland. Sounds exciting, and we’ll know for sure if audiences take to it when the film flies into theaters on March 29th, 2019.
