While the debate still rages over which of our heroes screwed up the most in Avengers: Infinity War, there’s no question that Tom Holland is the least trustworthy of their real-life counterparts – and we wouldn’t have it any other way. A notorious source of unintended leaks and spoilers, Holland has seemingly confirmed that Spider-Man: Far From Home – the title that he ‘accidentally’ revealed via social media yesterday – is indeed the proper name for Spider-Man: Homecoming 2.
The actor appropriately known for playing the well-meaning but socially awkward Peter Parker and his web-slinging alter ego took to Instagram yesterday with a video apologizing for the lack of updates on Spidey’s next solo outing. However, in what may well have been a deliberate reveal, Holland flashed the cover of the film’s digital script, emblazoned with the sequel’s apparent title: Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Naturally, the incident came up when Holland attended Seattle’s Ace Comic Con this weekend. In a live Q&A panel with Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie, host Kevin Smith enquired about the clip, with Holland responding: “I just got sent the new script for a film I might do this summer, and I might have accidentally revealed the title of the movie.” When Smith probed the actor further, Holland reaffirmed what we already more or less knew: “It’s called Spider-Man: Far From Home.”
While it’s possible that the actor’s still taking a little heat from Marvel right now for the incident, there’s also a good chance that the reveal was made with the studio’s consent. Holland’s well aware of his reputation for having loose lips, as are the bosses at Marvel who tried to keep the script for Infinity War out of his hands as much as possible during the filming of that blockbuster. So, it certainly wouldn’t be a shock to find out that this latest ‘leak’ was just a humorously indirect way of announcing the new title.
Assuming that Holland isn’t pulling some devilishly elaborate ruse on us right now then, we can say with confidence that Spider-Man: Far From Home will be what the film’s called when it hits theaters on July 5th, 2019.
