We’re now only weeks away from the release of Avengers: Infinity War, the culmination of a decade-long effort by countless individuals to bring the Marvel universe to the big screen. While it’s been a mostly smooth ride throughout – I’m looking at you Age of Ultron and The Dark World – there ’s been nothing easy about bringing together all of the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for a grandiose clash.
Of course, all this tireless work by those behind the scenes at Marvel Studios would be pointless if Avengers: Infinity War underwhelms, and to make sure that the event movie to end all event movies doesn’t have a single lull, Academy Award-nominee Josh Brolin was brought in to portray the MCU’s ultimate villain, Thanos. Granted, he’s been with the franchise for years now, but it’s only here that he’s finally getting a chance to step out of the shadows and grab the spotlight.
According to several of the film’s top-billed talent, Brolin’s performance as the wielder of the Infinity Stones is not just excellent, but also downright terrifying. Speaking to Empire Magazine, the likes of Tom Holland (Spider-Man) and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) couldn’t praise their co-star enough.
“Josh is terrifying. He has to wear this stupid mo-cap costume with big, rolling polystyrene shoulders and a tennis ball two feet above his head. He looks ridiculous, but as soon as the cameras roll he becomes this nine foot tall, terrifying alien.” Holland said.
Not to be outdone by his younger, on-screen pupil, Downey Jr. offered up his take on Brolin as well:
“I love him. Brolin doesn’t take himself seriously, but there’s a lot of weight in how he’s portraying this guy. We literally are all a little bit scared when he’s done cracking wise and steps into it. Get ready, brother. The Brolin Effect is coming.”
It’s been said that, for the most part, Marvel villains have left a lot to be desired when it comes to becoming intimidating figures. If RDJ and Tom Holland’s comments are anything to go by, though, it looks as if Brolin’s Thanos will stomp out the competition when Avengers: Infinity War arrives on April 27th.
