The decision by Sony to end their relationship with Disney and Marvel Studios on the Spider-Man franchise has caused a bit of a meltdown on the internet, both among those working behind-the-scenes at these corporations and with fans across the world, many of whom are now busy organizing protests and petitions in an attempt to get the hero back in the MCU.
And while Sony Pictures has already issued an official statement on the matter, the person that people really want to hear from is star Tom Holland, who’d kept silent all throughout the week, refusing to even acknowledge what was going on. Instead, he was busy sharing curious photos on social media, which made it hard to tell how he was truly feeling.
As a lifelong Spider-Man fan though, and someone who absolutely loves his job, you have to imagine it’s been a tough couple of days for the actor and now, he’s finally broken the silence on the Disney/Sony split. Though brief, Tom had a few words to offer his fans at D23, saying the following earlier today:
“It’s been a crazy week, but I want you to know I am grateful from the bottom of my heart and I love you 3,000.”
Sure, it’s not much, but it’s nice to see him finally at least acknowledge what’s going on and again, this is the first time he’s publicly commented on it. Besides, it’s not like he’d want to say very much anyways. No doubt, his team has probably told him to stay as far away from this mess as possible and not say anything which could potentially hurt his career.
While there’s been some talk of the two studios reopening negotiations and hopefully working something out, for now at least, things are looking pretty gloomy. And Tom probably knows that. So again, it’s understandable that he’s trying to keep as quiet as he can on the situation until things calm down a bit.
