When news of Sony and Marvel Studios splitting up in regards to their Spider-Man partnership broke earlier this week, social media lit up in a way that we haven’t seen since it was first revealed that the Mouse House had secured the hero for Captain America: Civil War several years ago. But back then, folks were obviously a lot happier.
This time, though, everyone from diehard True Believers to just casual audiences are furious that Peter Parker will no longer be in the MCU. And that’s understandable, too, given that this version of Spidey is so heavily tied to the late Iron Man and now, he can no longer even make mention of his mentor.
If there’s one silver lining to come of this, though, it’s that we’ve heard there are still at least two more Spider-Man films to be headlined by Tom Holland coming down the pipeline. And though a few reports recently cast doubt on that, it’s now been confirmed by the man himself. Well, sort of.
Finally breaking the silence, Holland spoke to Entertainment Weekly and said that he’s going to continue on in the role, though he wouldn’t reveal for how long or how many more films we’re getting. Still, hearing firm confirmation that he’s remaining on board as Spider-Man is good enough for us.
“Basically, we’ve made five great movies,” the actor said. “It’s been five amazing years. I’ve had the time of my life. Who knows what the future holds? But all I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life. It’s going to be so fun, however we choose to do it. The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler.”
So, there you have it, the future will be different, but it’ll still involve Tom Holland and while we’re not sure if it’ll be “equally as awesome and amazing” as the actor says without the MCU connections, at least we know Sony won’t be rebooting Spider-Man and they’ll be keeping the fan favorite around for the foreseeable future.
But tell us, does that make you feel any better about this whole debacle, or are you still upset that we’ll never see Peter Parker rub shoulders with his fellow Avengers? As always, take to the comments section and share your thoughts.
