Infinity War featured a number of pretty major deaths, but the one that first told us the movie would be absolutely merciless was Loki’s demise, when the Mad Titan took his life after acquiring the Space Stone. Tom Hiddleston’s trickster has been a fan favorite almost ever since his introduction, so folks were understandably very upset to see him go. But could we see him making a shocking return in Avengers 4?
Given that the God of Mischief has faked his death in the past, most fans just aren’t buying that he’s really gone for good. Yes, Hiddleston himself has told us that Loki won’t be returning, but unlike his buddy Tom Holland, he’s pretty good at keeping a secret and could just be saying this to throw us off the scent. I mean, the amount of evidence pointing to the villain having faked his own death is overwhelming at this point and when asked for a definitive answer today at ACE Comic Con, the actor changed his tune.
Speaking to the crowd during a panel, Hiddleston was asked if Loki’s really gone for good and instead of giving a straight answer, he said:
“Listen… I’ve heard some amazing theories about this. I was in a park in London a couple of weeks ago, and some guys came and said hi, and they asked me the same question. They said, ‘Hey, listen, we need an answer to this question. All the other times Loki’s died’ — there’s been a few — ‘he stabs with his right hand. And now he’s stabbing with his left hand.’ I was like, ‘That’s incredible attention to detail.’”
Getting back to the question at hand though, Tom took another second to consider it and simply said, “Your guess is as good as mine,” refusing to confirm it one way or the other. Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean we should expect to see the God of Mischief in Avengers 4, but it’s interesting that after asserting Loki won’t be back, Hiddleston’s now dancing around the question.
Listen, as much as we love the character, we must say that there are only so many times that Marvel can fake Loki’s death before the twist gets wearying, but with the former Avengers villain set to have his own TV show, it’s clear that we haven’t seen the last of him just yet.
