After getting our first look at Tom Hardy in The Dark Knight Rises last week, we now have our first look at Hollywood’s most sought after actor in another very highly anticipated film, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Along with Hardy, we also get a look at two other fine actors, Colin Firth and Gary Oldman.
Poised to be a serious Oscar contender, Tomas Alfredson‘s Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is based on the novel by John le Carré. Along with Tom Hardy, Colin Firth and Gary Oldman, the film also stars Mark Strong, Ciarán Hinds, Benedict Cumberbatch, David Dencik, Stephen Graham, Toby Jones, and John Hurt.
The Cold-War thriller sees Oldman as a spy brought out of retirement to find a spy within M16. Universal is planning a late 2011 release with this one and it will likely find itself at some festivals before it sees a theatrical release.
There’s quite a few reasons to look forward to this one. For one, it’s being directed by the man who brought us the very well received Let The Right One In. Secondly, look at that cast. We have a nice little pre-The Dark Knight Rises reunion going on with Oldman and Hardy, plus we also have last year’s Oscar winner in Colin Firth and a nice supporting cast with strong talent like Mark Strong and the under-appreciated Ciarán Hinds.
And lastly, the source material is something to be excited about. le Carré is one of the greatest espionage novelists of all time. Plus, I do generally enjoy spy films. So all things considered, this is one to look forward to.
