In yet another case of Hollywood’s peculiar double vision, there are currently a pair of female-led sibling movies incubating in development, with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler headlining one and newfound friends Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer featuring in the other. And though the latter is still simmering at the script stage, Fey and Poehler will hit the big screen this December in Sisters, and today brings forth a slew of new images for the comedy.

Directed by Jason Moore of Pitch Perfect fame, Sisters follows two siblings who return home upon learning of their parents’ decision to sell the family house. Having grown distant in their time apart, the homecoming offers a form of reconciliation for Fey and Poehler’s characters, and judging by today’s images, it’s clear that the twosome are keen to make up for lost time.

Going one step further, our protagonists stage one final house party in their old home as a final farewell, and though it reads as overly sentimental and schmaltzy on paper, we’re holding out hope that Fey and Poehler’s comedic chops – best known for their joint performances on 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation – can elevate Sisters above mediocrity.

Sisters is on course for a release on December 18, opposite a little known sequel called Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Alas, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s sibling comedy get trounced at the box office, but the star power of the leading pair ought to be enough to attract a sizeable audience. Until then, here’s the official synopsis.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler reunite for Sisters, a new film from Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore about two disconnected sisters summoned home to clean out their childhood bedroom before their parents sell the family house. Looking to recapture their glory days, they throw one final high-school-style party for their classmates, which turns into the cathartic rager that a bunch of ground-down adults really need.
