Disney has today premiered what will likely be one of, if not the final trailer for James Bobin’s fantasy offshoot Alice Through the Looking Glass – and it’s a doozy.
Welcoming Lewis Carroll’s indelible creations back onto the silver screen once more, it is Mia Wasikowska’s title character that is sent off on a journey to Underland, encountering old faces, new faces and the very essence of time itself. Playing the part of the latter character is Sacha Baron Cohen – part human, part clock – who proves instrumental in Alice’s quest as she tumbles further and further down the rabbit hole.
Along for that time-bending escapade are Helena Bonhan Carter and Anne Hathaway as the Red Queen and White Queen, respectively, while Alice Through the Looking Glass will also feature Johnny Depp in the role of the Mad Hatter, Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat, Michael Sheen’s White Rabbit, and the late, great Alan Rickman as Absolem.
Alice Through the Looking Glass is poised to give Bryan Singer and his band of mutants a run for their money when Disney’s spinoff dances into theaters on May 27.
Director James Bobin brings his own unique vision to the spectacular world Tim Burton created on screen in 2010 with “Alice in Wonderland,” in which Alice (Wasikowska) returns to the whimsical world of Underland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter. The film, which once again features Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and the voices of Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen and Timothy Spall, introduces several new characters as well: Zanik Hightopp (Rhys Ifans), the Mad Hatter’s father, and Time.
