That little baby elephant with the ginormous ears takes flight in today’s magical first trailer for Disney and Tim Burton’s live-action Dumbo movie.
Starring the likes of Colin Farrell, Eva Green and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia favorite Danny DeVito as circus ringleader, Max Medici, this is a refreshing new take on the old Disney classic, and one which follows in the footsteps of other live-action remakes like Cinderella, The Jungle Book and last year’s wildly successful Beauty and the Beast.
But with its all-star cast and adorable title character, Dumbo will likely skew toward a younger audience. Although if Colin Farrell is to be believed, adults will have just as much fun basking in the Disney nostalgia come 2019.
Honestly, I was like a child in a sweet shop, I really was, I was so giddy. I had this sustained excitement during the whole thing because the sets we were working on were extraordinary, the story was so sweet, Tim was such a dream, the cast was so lovely. It’s also nice to do something that my children can see.
The Irish actor plays Holt Farrier, a “former horse showman who returns from World War I a widower.” As if that wasn’t tragic enough, Farrier soon discovers that the local circus has been left on the brink no thanks to Max Medici (DeVito), whose untold greed leads to utter financial ruin.
Eva Green, meanwhile, is on board to play aerial acrobat Colette Marchant, one of the few people capable of helping Dumbo overcome his crippling nerves. And the rest is history.
Tim Burton’s live-action Dumbo soars into theaters on March 29th, 2019, and if it’s able to channel the spirit of Beauty and the Beast ($1.24 billion) and The Jungle Book ($966 million), it’ll likely turn out to be a resounding success for everyone involved.
