With the release of Thunderbolts less than a year and a half away, Marvel has started locking down cast members for its new team-up flick in earnest, and rumor has it that Steven Yeun will be making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the film.
The former The Walking Dead star and Oscar-nominated actor will be joining the ever-expanding cast of Thunderbolts alongside confirmed cast members David Harbour, Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, according to an undisclosed source via Deadline.
Yeun is no stranger to superhero roles, having brought life to the lead role of Mark Grayson in Prime Video’s adaptation of the Invincible comic. If he even brings an ounce of that energy to Marvel, he’s going to do great.
That said, we still don’t know the exact nature of Yeun’s role. Marvel is keeping a pretty tight lid on most details surrounding the film, and the fanbase is still working with mostly rumors around casting. Even the franchise’s resident Winter Soldier Sebastian Stan is pretty out of the know.
A confirmed returning face, David Harbour, recently mused on the prospect of having to shoot the hotly anticipated final season of Stranger Things alongside the upcoming Marvel movie. Perhaps it will be made easier on him if one of his co-stars from the hit Netflix series joins him?
We’ve still got ourselves a bit of a wait before we see Yeun make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, at the moment Thunderbolts is tentatively scheduled for release on July 26, 2024.
