The report goes on to state that S.H.I.E.L.D.’s downfall in The Winter Soldier forced Pym into the private sector and left him vulnerable to the internal corporate problems that act as a catalyst for the events of Ant-Man. A shooting draft of the Ant-Man script supposedly featured a post-credits stinger showing Ross approaching present-day Pym and telling him that he was sent by Tony Stark. When asked why, Ross responds, “Haven’t you seen the news? We’re at war.”
That would essentially pave the way for Ross’ involvement in Captain America: Civil War, and place Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man at an interesting place in the upcoming conflict between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers – fueled by the emergence of the Superhero Registration Act. Furthermore, the site claims that Black Widow will have a diminished role in Civil War, as the assassin is arrested for aiding fugitive superhumans. Her future jailbreak would help bring Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang – a former con-man – into the Avengers fold.
As I said, these rumors should be seen as only that – rumors. Still, they are extremely exciting plot developments and could lead to some truly interesting and compelling storylines down the road. They also give Ant-Man a reason for existing in the larger MCU and help explain how the size-changing superhero fits into the Avengers team.
Ant-Man will hit theaters on July 17th, 2015, while Captain America: Civil War debuts on May 6th, 2016.
