Variety is reporting that Sacha Baron Cohen is in talks to play an unknown role in Through the Looking Glass, the sequel to Alice in Wonderland which already has Mia Wasikowska and Johnny Depp returning.

James Bobin, who is set to direct the film, will be having a bit of a reunion with Cohen should the actor officially sign on. Their previous creative partnerships birthed memorable characters like Ali G, Borat, and Brüno, leading to Bobins’ directorial debut with the musical comedy The Muppets, which became a star-studded commercial hit. Having successfully tapped into the feature film realm, all eyes are now on the director to deliver a sequel that does the original novel justice.

No plot details have been released just yet, but viewers who watched Alice in Wonderland could expect a similar pattern in the sequel, one that includes many plot twists that stray from the original text. Although Tim Burton’s original film did not receive favourable reviews, due to its narrative incoherence and flat characterization, its adaptation into a film did create an opportunity to decode some of Lewis Carolls’ complex themes and subject matter. Hopefully, Through the Looking Glass, which is set in an inverted Wonderland filled with ticking clocks and quirky imagery, won’t further complicate Carolls’ vision.

If you enjoyed the whimsical mania of Alice in Wonderland or just want to experience the highly detailed wonders of this computer-animated fantasy film, then make sure to catch Through the Looking Glass when it releases on May 27th, 2016.
