After closing out his beloved Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy with The World’s End in 2013, writer-director Edgar Wright has made the journey across the pond to seek pastures anew. His latest creative venture, Baby Driver, is an American crime caper that’s cobbled together an enviable cast of Hollywood A-listers including Lily James, Jon Hamm, Jon Bernthal, Jamie Foxx and House of Cards alum Kevin Spacey.
Once slated to give Disney’s Beauty and the Beast a run for their money on March 17, Sony opted to postpone Baby Driver back to August, where it’ll go up against the likes of The Emoji Movie and the Charlize Theron-fronted thriller The Coldest City. Even when factoring a delay into the equation, excitement for Wright’s new project remains high, and following Entertainment Weekly’s showcase last month, a trio of new pics for the movie has zoomed online via CutPrintFilm (thanks, Collider). You can check them out up above alongside some previously released ones.
Headed up by Ansel Elgort of The Divergent Series – he’ll play the titular getaway speedster – our unlikely hero suffers from tinnitus, a hearing condition that results in a constant ringing sound reverberating through his ears. To combat the ailment, Elgort’s lead calls upon his rock n’ roll soundtrack and perhaps most exciting of all, we understand that much of Baby Driver‘s action will be choreographed around that soundtrack in question. Wright described the film’s intriguing use of music as so:
“I always wanted to do an action movie that was powered by music. It’s something that’s very much a part of my previous films and I thought of this idea of how to take that a stage further by having a character who listens to music the entire time. So, you have this young getaway driver who has to soundtrack his entire existence, particularly the bank robberies and fast getaways that come afterwards.”
Also starring Eiza González and Sky Ferreira, Baby Driver is expected to screech into theaters in time for August 11th.
