Fresh off the very successful film The Social Network, director David Fincher has now turned his attention towards his next film, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, a remake of the Swedish film. The film already has a few big stars attached. Rooney Mara will take the lead role and will co-star alongside Daniel Craig. In addition to Craig and Mara, Christopher Plummer, Robin Wright Penn and Stellan Skarsgård have also signed on to the film. Today news broke about three more stars joining the movie.
Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck), Steven Berkoff (A Clockwork Orange) and David Dencik (from the original film) will all be joining the cast of the remake. Fincher also spoke out recently about the film and clarified that they are adapting Stieg Larsson’s novel, not the movie.
In other words, the US version won’t be a shot for shot remake of the Swedish version. Fincher is adapting the book, not the movie and therefore he will provide a unique take on the source material.
With a December 2011 release date, the film is still a long ways away. With Fincher behind the camera though and an all star cast in front, this could be one worth keeping your eye on.
