In Norse mythology, Ragnarok (AKA Twilight of the Gods) is defined as the end of all things – a great battle that leads to the death of several major figures, including Odin, Heimdall, and Loki. But in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ragnarok looks set to herald one of the most spectacular and indeed hilarious superhero movies of the past few years.
Yes, even after two suitably huge trailer reveals for Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther spinoff, Thor: Ragnarok continues to generate a metric ton of buzz ahead of its theatrical release on November 3rd.
That’s only a few weeks away now, and as we begin to enter the home stretch, more and more details on the pic are coming to light. For instance, earlier this week, we learned that the threequel will feature the MCU’s first nude scene and now, we’re hearing that it’ll bring about another first, as the film will give us Marvel Studios’ first LGBT character: Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie.
As fans of the comics will know, the hero is portrayed as bisexual in the source material, but to date, none of the marketing material we’ve seen has drawn attention to this. Of course, everyone just assumed that Marvel would skirt over her sexuality but according to Thompson, that’s not going to be the case, as she took to Twitter this week to confirm that the character is bi.
Whether or not that means the film will actually address this, or the actress is simply just stating a fact is unknown, but given that she’s talking about it publicly makes us think that it’ll be mentioned or alluded to on screen. We could be wrong, of course, but it’s about time Marvel starts throwing some LGBT characters into their movies, don’t you think? Or at least, starts addressing the sexuality of those who fall under that banner (Loki, Deadpool, etc.).
Dubbed the most-anticipated film of the fall season – ahead of Justice League, no less – Thor: Ragnarok has been booked in for release on November 3rd. Be sure to hang around after the finale of Taika Waititi’s threequel, too, as it’s been confirmed that Ragnarok will come packing not one, but two post-credits scenes.
