Ever since Avengers: Endgame left Thor on board the Benatar, fans have been desperate to find out whether the “Asgardians of the Galaxy” would actually become a thing. Chris Hemsworth has said he’s up for a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 but Marvel filmmakers have remained cagey on the subject. Some new intel that’s surfaced this week though firmly points to the God of Thunder sticking around to annoy Star-Lord.
TheMarvelScoopMaster has been dishing out a lot of juicy info on MCU Phase Four on Reddit of late and today, a user asked him if he’d heard anything about Thor 4. The insider claimed that the film is still a while off and Thor’s appearance in GotG Vol. 3 will come about to keep the character “relevant.”
“Thor 4 is very far down the road. Don’t expect any news or updates on it until at least 2025. This is why the character will be in GOTG 3 as a way to keep him around and relevant until Thor 4.”
If the scooper’s info is correct, it sounds like Thor may only have a minor supporting role or perhaps just a brief cameo in the threequel rather than a major part. If the purpose behind his appearance in the movie is more about brand recognition than the needs of the story, then he surely won’t be around for the whole film.
This would also make sense with how many characters Guardians 3 has been rumored to carry. Based on Vol. 2‘s teases and Gunn’s hints, it looks like Adam Warlock and Quasar are confirmed. What’s more, the likes of Moondragon, Beta Ray Bill, Nova, and Lylla – an otter love interest for Rocket – have been linked as well. Plus, Mark Hamill could be playing the villain of the piece, Rocket’s creator the High Evolutionary.
The same source also says Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 starts shooting in February 2020, with Marvel keen to get it in theaters in May 2021. As such, expect to hear more about the threequel soon.
