It’s coming up to a full half-century since Star Wars exploded into theaters and became an enduring global phenomenon. Those original fans are now deep into middle age and one of them has just made a surprising discovery in their backyard. Twitter user @bhdonkey revealed that he’s now taken over his family home and was doing some irrigation work in the backyard when he found a lost Sith secret.
It was something dark, something evil, that perhaps should have remained buried for all time. Yup, it’s good old Emperor Palpatine, who’s been entombed in the dirt for 35 long years. Sheev is looking pretty good all things considered, though one fan piped up with what’s clearly the only appropriate response:
Yup, somehow Palpatine returned. The Rise of Skywalker‘s most notorious line has become a byword for the sequel trilogy’s shoddy finale. Recent Disney Plus shows like The Mandalorian have begun to lay the groundwork for Palpatine’s unlikely comeback by showing Imperial cloning research, though it’s worth noting this has never been depicted on screen.
Honestly, some guy doing yard work on Tatooine and discovering a long-buried Palpatine makes as much sense as anything else, so if Lucasfilm ever wants to show his resurrection perhaps they could take inspiration from this tweet.
With a The Rise of Skywalker sequel on the horizon, there’s still an outside chance that Palpatine could mount a second comeback, as if you can cheat death once, repeating the feat isn’t out of the question. But, for the sake of our sanity, let’s hope he stays exploded this time.
