‘There was something so delicious with this part’: Gal Gadot can’t wait to chew on the scenery in ‘Snow White’

Snow White, the live-action adaptation of Disney‘s timeless animated classic, is due in theaters next year, and if you listen closely you can hear a specific subset of moviegoers grumbling about when this particular campaign is going to end.

Indeed, ever since The Lion King and Aladdin made over a billion dollars, Disney’s been pumping out these remakes like its legacy depends on it. Of course, with The Little Mermaid showing signs of diminishing returns for this approach, Snow White could be the beginning of the end.

That being said, it will be infinitely interesting to see how this particular adaptation spreads its wings, especially considering the fact that screenwriting extraordinaire Greta Gerwig – the mastermind of the upcoming Barbie – is attached as a co-scribe. And with a pair of electrifying leads in Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, Snow White could surprise the skeptics yet.

Gadot in particular is relishing the opportunity; the Wonder Woman actress is set to portray the Evil Queen, and in an interview with Vogue, couldn’t help but gush over the unique playground that she’s gotten to explore, as well as the feeling of filling the shoes of Disney’s first villain.

“I don’t have a preferred type of character. I think it was so much fun to play the Evil Queen. There was something so delicious with this part because it’s a fairy tale. It’s the first Disney villain. And because it’s a musical, I could stretch my performance and make it so much more dramatic and so much more animated, that it was just simply delightful.”

Considering how far back the story of Snow White goes (the original Disney adaptation released in 1937), there are some long-dormant parameters at play here, all of which could manifest quite curiously within the context of a modern adaptation.

At the end of the day, we’ll just have to see what kind of waves Snow White can make when it releases to theaters on March 22, 2024.
