To call Kevin Spacey‘s fall from grace in the wake of repeated sexual misconduct allegations as swift as it was staggering would be a fair summation, with the actor’s reputation now lying in tatters.
Once lauded as one of his generation’s finest talents with two Academy Awards, a Golden Globe, a Tony, and a dozen Primetime Emmy nominations under his belt, it all came crashing down when Anthony Rapp opened the floodgates to decades of accusations being made public, which deservedly saw Spacey effectively exiled from mainstream entertainment.
However, he’s still holding out hope for a comeback, and even voiced his staunch belief to ZEITmagazin (via The Hollywood Reporter) ahead of his latest trial in which he’s facing charges of sexual abuse against three men that he’s confident it won’t take him long to find a job should things turn out in his favor.
“I know that there are people right now who are ready to hire me the moment I am cleared of these charges in London. The second that happens, they’re ready to move forward.”
While there may well be somebody out there willing to give him a shot, it’s been half a decade since Spacey featured in a Hollywood production, and it’s highly unlikely that any more are on the horizon.
Regardless of the latest charges, the fact his production company was forced to pay out $31 million for violating the sexual harassment policy on House of Cards underlines that he can protest his innocence as much as he needs to, but the legal precedent has been set that his prior misconduct is a matter of public record.
