Thanks to his status as a two-time Razzie winner, the star of one of the worst comic book adaptations ever made that bombed twice over at the box office, not to mention his status as Hollywood’s marquee bohemian eccentric, there weren’t a lot of people particularly enthused at the prospect of seeing Jared Leto take center stage in Tron 3.
Needless to say, his mere presence is enough to ensure a lot of people will avoid a project like the plague – a misfortune that very recently befell the first trailer for Disney’s Haunted Mansion reboot – but the world can breathe a collective sigh of relief and sleep easy knowing that Leto is neither the lead nor the main character of the sequel.
While the Morbius star will play the title role in Tron: Ares as the manifestation of the nefarious program, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Greta Lee will play a video game programmer and tech company CEO who goes on the run to protect her technology with the potential to change the world, which sounds as though it establishes her as both the audience surrogate and de facto main player in the narrative.
Given his propensity for going a little too method at times, you’ve got to wonder how on earth Leto will prepare to play a malevolent artificial intelligence. It’s going to be weird, it’s probably not going to be wonderful, but it will undoubtedly be fascinating in one way or another, even if it’s far too early to rule out another prospective Razzie.
