Toni Erdmann breakout Ingrid Bisu will bear witness to The Nun in New Line’s upcoming horror spinoff.
Variety has the scoop, confirming that Bisu has signed on to play Sister Oana, a devout, deeply religious member of Romania’s cloistered abbey who is swept up into an entangled web of supernatural thrills and spills once the titular, malevolent force rears its ghastly head.
As we learned late last week, New Line is keen to foster a family affair with its Conjuring spinoff, after casting Taissa Farmiga in the title role. That’s the younger sister of Vera Farmiga, whose Lorraine Warren has spent the better part of four years investigating nine kinds of supernatural abnormalities. Rounding out the casting docket for The Nun are Alien: Covenant‘s Demian Bichir as Father Burke, a missionary sent from the Vatican City to address the investigate the supernatural disturbance, and Bonnie Aarons, who is expected to reprise her role from the second Conjuring movie, The Enfield Poltergeist.
Before venturing off to shoot Aquaman for Warner Bros., James Wan hashed out a screenplay with co-writer Gary Dauberman, and Variety has today outlined a brief synopsis for The Nun, revealing that the story centers on “a young nun (Farmiga) at a cloistered abbey in Romania taking her own life, with a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret and confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun from The Conjuring 2.”
The Nun is earmarked for launch on July 13th, 2018 – that’s a Friday, too, so you’d best avoid any black cats on your way to the local theater.
