With shooting now underway on Captain America: New World Order, set photos and videos have already been making the rounds online, and the footage has confirmed that yet another WWE star is making a play for big screen stardom.
Seth Rollins has been glimpsed sharing scenes with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson on the set of the Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster, and he’s already set to show a pair of squared circle alumni how not to star in a comic book adaptation that bombs at the box office.
Of course, the answer is exceedingly simple; Johnson’s Black Adam and Cena’s The Suicide Squad both fell under the DC umbrella, and each of them failed spectacularly for very different reasons. The former simply didn’t soar high enough to guarantee its star and producer’s future as part of the franchise, while the pandemic killed the latter’s chances of success, although we did get the wonderful Peacemaker out of the deal.
Rollins, meanwhile, has taken a leaf out of the Dave Bautista playbook by opting for Marvel, something that worked out very well for the longtime Drax the Destroyer after he got the chance to appear in the acclaimed Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, as well as Thor: Love and Thunder.
There’s very little chance that New World Order is going to go down in a ball of flames and lose an absolute fortune during its theatrical run, and if it doesn’t, then it only serves to add further credence to the theory that if you’re a professional wrestler seeking to make the jump into spandex-clad tales of escapism that play like gangbusters at the multiplex, Marvel is by far the safest bet.
