While the quality of the storytelling in the MCU post-Avengers: Endgame has been somewhat hit and miss with a fair share of its films and Disney Plus shows falling flat with audiences, it’s most certainly not all bad. While some of the franchise’s properties and dialogue may not end up aging all that well, there’s still a good reason for why Marvel’s live-action efforts became so globally popular – there were some genuinely human moments throughout which managed to enrapture us en masse.
In the spirit of that, folks over on the Marvel Studios subreddit gathered up to share some of the most memorable and impactful quotes from the MCU so far, which they think will stand the test of time. No matter how many cringeworthy product placements (Fortnite, really?) or era-specific social media references which will fall out of vogue within a matter of years, there are some moments which will retain their impact no matter what. The author of the thread, u/FullToragatsu, kicked the discussion off with their pick:
Peter Quill and Yondu’s strained and complicated relationship coming full circle in the final act of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is certainly one to remember, and perhaps a timely prompt to revisit Star Lord’s previous adventures before the impending release of Vol. 3.
Another highly-regarded quote came from an unnamed civilian who stood up to an autocratic Loki in the first Avengers film, who told the Trickster god “there will always be men like you,” a scathing commentary on history’s dictators, both past and present. Moving on to Age of Ultron, fans shared how taken they were by Vision’s proclamation of “a thing isn’t beautiful because it lasts” to the final standing Ultron bot.
There’s many more to glean from the thread’s comments, but even just a few of the above serve as a reminder that a superhero film can be both an hour and a half of fun and mindless action, as well as something that is capable of leaving a lasting impression.
Here’s hoping that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 managed to deliver in an emotional and timeless way when it arrives in just a few days time on May 5.
