Fresh off his supporting role in DreamWorks animation Trolls, The Late Late Show host James Corden has landed a role in Ocean’s Eight, the Gary Ross-directed crime caper headed up by Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett.
Deadline has the scoop, revealing that Corden will play the part of an insurance investigator assigned to keep a close eye on Bullock and her merry band of crooks. Angled as more of a continuation of Steven Soderbergh’s heist saga than an out-and-out reboot, we understand that Bullock and Blanchett anchor the all-star cast as two master thieves – not unlike George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s respective characters, then – who place their proverbial crosshairs on an invaluable necklace on display at New York’s Met Ball.
Damian Lewis, who plays a former flame to Bullock’s lead, will be in attendance, too. And so, after recruiting Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter to the cause, Bullock and Blanchett’s team of tricksters set about staging their grand heist. Shenanigans ensue.
Currently earmarked for a summer 2018 release, there have been murmurings that Ocean’s Eight will feature cameos from the original cast. Matt Damon is one former star who seems game to return, though how his Linus Caldwell fits into proceedings is up for question at this early stage.
Ocean’s Eight is booked in for theatrical release on June 8, 2018. Also in the pipeline for Corden are roles in both The Emoji Movie and Peter Rabbit, Sony’s all-star live-action reboot.
