Paramount has pulled back the curtain on a new poster for Adam McKay’s starry finance drama The Big Short, depicting a housing market that is on the downward spiral.
Drawing attention to the four leading cast members as much as it does the actual plot, McKay’s picture brings together Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt as four willing outsiders, who believe they’ve struck gold just as the housing market teeters on the edge of a crash in 2008. With the media fanning the flame of a banking crisis, the group whip the titular organization into shape in order to jump through the legal loopholes of the system, as they venture into the dark underbelly of modern banking unabated in search of a quick and easy profit.
Chips come down, morals are questioned and arguments ensue, but as the initial trailer revealed last month, it is really the dynamic between the core quartet that has piqued our attention for The Big Short. On the other hand, it’ll be interesting to see Adam McKay, a director who has established himself in the comedy genre with Step Brothers and the like, dabble with a more dramatic project.
After making its bow at the AFI festival at the beginning of December, The Big Short will arrive in theaters on December 23. Its star-studded cast sheet also features Tracy Letts, Hamish Linklater, John Magaro, Byron Mann, Rafe Spall, Jeremy Strong and Finn Wittrock.
When four outsiders saw what the big banks, media and government refused to, the global collapse of the economy, they had an idea: The Big Short. Their bold investment leads them into the dark underbelly of modern banking where they must question everyone and everything. Based on the true story and best-selling book by Michael Lewis (The Blind Side, Moneyball), and directed by Adam Mckay (Anchorman, Step Brothers) The Big Short stars Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt.
