Warner Bros. Discovery boss David Zaslav might be head over heels in love with The Flash, calling it the best superhero movie ever, but it looks like that opinion is far from mutual.

Rohan Patel’s first reactions to the film, published to his Twitter account after watching an early screening at CinemaCon on Tuesday, are making the rounds on the DC_Cinematic subsection of Reddit, with particular emphasis on the quality of the Speed Force scenes. According to Patel, the visual effects in the sequences depicting the energy field are “a real let down,” and a “huge step back” from the fan-favorite Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

CGI has been a point of contention in superhero films for a while now, affecting both DC and its rival Marvel. The Flash has been a generally controversial project before it even started filming thanks to not only the bizarre episodes of its main star but also all the changes happening at DC and Warner Bros. behind the scenes. Early reviews coming from CinemaCon are generally positive, but only time will tell if the film is good enough to overshadow its misfortunes. The Flash hits theaters June 16, 2023.
