The Flash is getting bashed for a number of shortcomings, whether it is the cringy CGI or the woeful incompleteness that drips from its every facet. But if a new rumor is to be believed, Marvel is not at all bothered by the negative reviews as it has decided to be inspired by the DC film and follow in its footsteps, copying the one thing it actually got lauded for.
The rumor, which comes from KC Walsh (a reliable source when it comes to insider info) has reported that Ben Affleck was spotted on the sets of Deadpool 3.
Now, that’s the entirety of the original rumor. But as it gains traction, many have added hyped up the currently baseless possibility by stating that Affleck is set to play his version of Matt Murdock aka Daredevil from the 2003 film.
Well, if this pipe dream is indeed what Marvel is cooking for the Merc with a Mouth’s eventual MCU debut, it is taking a page out of DCU’s book by bringing back Affleck’s iteration of a beloved character. Just like Affleck’s Batman doesn’t change James Gunn’s secret plans for the Gotham savior, the reappearance of a Daredevil variant won’t be making a dent in Charlie Cox’s fixed status as MCU’s Devil of Hell’s Kitchen.
But just because Affleck has played the Marvel character in the past doesn’t necessarily mean he is set to reprise the role again in Deadpool 3. Then again, it does feel like an authentic companion piece to all the rumors about the film featuring various Deadpool variants. Also, neither Affleck nor anyone associated with the film has even remotely teased the actor’s presence in the film. And pardon me for saying this — this apology is aimed at those who are big fans of Affleck’s Daredevil — the possibility of him joining the project doesn’t hold the same gravity as Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine does.
Deadpool 3 hits theaters on May 3, 2024.
