The entire selling point of The Expendables from the very beginning has always been the prospect of seeing a bunch of old guys kicking ass, so by extension the next installment should be the best ever given that it’s been 10 years since the last one.
The third entry in the action saga was destroyed by its PG-13 rating – although a leaked copy of the movie arriving weeks before release didn’t help – leaving nobody surprised when it turned out to be the lowest-grossing and worst-reviewed of the trilogy. However, not even the ravages of time can slow down Barney Ross and the gang, with The Expendables 4 arriving later this year.
Ahead of the debut of the film’s first full-length trailer, the first poster has dropped, and it boasts a tagline so terrible that it’s entirely reasonable that the end result is going to be an orgy of cheese and testosterone wrapped up in a litany of bullets, blood, and bodies.
“They’ll die when they’re dead” is presumably supposed to sound badass, but it’s entirely factual and applicable to all facets of life. It sounds exactly like the sort of thing the characters within the universe would say with a completely straight face, thus making it immediately awesome by extension.
Arnold Schwarzenegger might be sitting this one out, but Stallone will be joined by Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture, with the new contingent being filled out by 50 Cent, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, and many more in what hopefully marks a return to form.
