“There are other worlds than these.” And there are also other works of fiction from Stephen King than The Dark Tower.
Even if you only have a passing interest in King’s oeuvre, you’ll know that many of his stories are intricately connected with one another – the Man in Black (Randall Flag), for instance, is a character who crops up in multiple vignettes ranging from The Dark Tower to The Stand. And at least based on today’s brief new promo, that sense of legacy will be on full display when Nikolaj Arcel’s big-screen adaptation launches into theaters early next month.
Bear in mind that this sneak peek is designed to uncover the film’s many Easter eggs so you don’t have to, so if you’re of the mindset that you want to identify all of The Dark Tower‘s nods to the overarching Stephen King universe on your own accord, avoid this promo as though it were the Man in Black himself.
Because in Stephen King’s magnum opus, he is the devil incarnate – a being who has haunted Roland Deschain (AKA The Gunslinger) for years as he makes the long, meandering journey toward that titular edifice. On the one hand, Idris Elba’s last remaining Gunslinger is sworn to protect Mid-World from the coming of the dark, while Matthew McConaughey’s villain, wants nothing more than to tear The Dark Tower – the nexus of time; the linchpin of existence – asunder. Tom Taylor, Claudia Kim, Fran Kranz, Abbey Lee, and Jackie Earle Haley co-star.
Emerging from a storied production cycle, The Dark Tower will finally hit the big screen on August 4th. It’s one of two high-profile Stephen King adaptations bound for cinema, given that New Line and Andy Muschietti are also plotting It Part 1 – The Losers Club for release on September 8th. The Pennywise saga will unfold across two separate instalments, and King’s son, Joe Hill, is confident that Muschietti and the team are about to unleash one of the scariest films ever made.
