Bringing an end to a truly torrid saga, during which time the project continually skirted dangerously close to cancellation, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that The Crow remake will now move forward without Relativity.
In their stead, Samuel Hadida’s Davis Films, Highland Film Group and Electric Shadow have joined forces to finance, produce and distribute the long-gestating redo, which now holds the tentative title The Crow Reborn. With principal photography scheduled to begin some time next year, the jury’s still out on whether Corin Hardy and Aquaman‘s Jason Momoa are still attached to direct and star, but we’ll keeping a close eye on this one as more information comes to light.
[zergpaid]What we do know is that Edward R. Pressman, the producer involved in the cult ’94 original, is back for The Crow Reborn, stating: “I am thrilled to collaborate with this talented team and return The Crow franchise to its roots for a new generation of audiences to enjoy.” Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh will executive produce.
Once on the verge of entering development in 2015, The Crow fell prey to Relativity Media’s bankruptcy filing, and has remained on the shelf ever since. Said to be one of the studio’s most valuable products, getting the remake off the ground proved more difficult than expected, with numerous writers and directors coming attached only to make for the exit door shortly thereafter.
Today’s revelation is an exciting step forward, then. We’ll be bringing you all the latest on The Crow Reborn as it prepares to take flight in 2017 – hopefully with Jason Momoa and Corin Hardy firmly on board.
