No, this has nothing to do with the Marvel Comics character. But the Coen brothers did rewrite a romantic heist film from the 1960s, originally starring Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine titled Gambit.
We’ve known about the script since January this year, when it was rumored to be in development. It was also rumored that Doug Liman may have been planning to direct. Liman’s projects include Mr. and Mrs. Smith, The Bourne Identity and Jumper. But now it seems that Liman has passed in order to direct All You Need is Kill. So the mantle has fallen to director Michael Hoffman, whose last project was The Last Station.
It’s unclear why the Coens, who almost always direct their own scripts, won’t be taking on this project. Deadline is reporting that filming will begin in May, in London. But the film has not yet been cast.
