Amid Warner’s DC blowout yesterday evening, Variety relayed a fascinating tidbit regarding The Batman: the Matt Reeves project may well feature a Bruce Wayne still in his 20s.

It’s by no means the first time that we’ve heard of Reeves’ intentions for a young Bats; hell, it’s part of the reason why Ben Affleck is ostensibly finished with the role of Gotham’s Dark Knight. Nevertheless, rumors of a youthful and perhaps immature Batman will certainly turn heads and raise eyebrows, particularly when you consider that it’s directly at odds with Affleck’s own interpretation of the famed character, what with his world-weary attitude and stoic demeanor.

Mind you, don’t take this report as gospel; Variety is quick to stress that Matt Reeves is still in the process of assembling his team for The Batman, and therefore isn’t prepared to commit to a younger Bats just yet.

No details have been revealed, including how old Bruce Wayne will be in the movie. Some believe Reeves wants someone younger, in their mid-20s, while others believe the studio wants someone a little older to play the part. Most insiders stress, however, that until the director begins meetings, no final decision will be made on that front.

Be that as it may, with Warner Bros. execs seemingly enamored with The Batman script, we’re confident that the project is in safe hands. It’ll also be rubbing shoulders with The Suicide Squad, James Gunn’s franchise relaunch involving Task Force X and a new, yet-to-be-determined foe, given the two DC projects have been slated for a release in summer 2021. And isn’t that exciting?

The Batman (or whatever it winds up being called), will be the first to drop on June 25th, 2021, before Warner’s Suicide Squad relaunch follows suit in August of that same year.
