Just like Marvel, DC has also teased potential stories that could have been told in future movies. However, most of them never saw the light of day. This is quite unfortunate, especially when it teased villains and potential adversaries of our favorite heroes. What kind of damage could they have done if they were Earth’s newest threat? I guess we’ll never know.
It won’t be long until James Gunn’s DCU reboot will see the light of day. From there, new stories of our favorite DC characters will be told and will put the SnyderVerse to rest. So, before we say farewell to the previous DCU, here are the 10 worst post-credits scenes that went absolutely went nowhere.
10. Mister Mind appears… again
If you want the very definition of “it went nowhere,” the post-credit scene for Shazam! Fury of the Gods fits the bill. Dr. Sivana, the main antagonist from the first film, got so annoyed by Mister Mind’s delays. Then, the sentient worm reminds this prisoner that he’s someone with no wings or arms, so things take time. It then ends with Mister Mind walking away once more, with nothing to put on the table.
9. Barry and Aquaman back together
This 2023 post-credit scene during The Flash was pretty much inconsequential on the surface, but it did leave some small hints of the DC multiverse. In the stinger, Barry explains to Aquaman that he keeps seeing different Batmen whenever he goes back in time, but for some reason, he and Aquaman remain the same. Arthur Curry pretty much ignores this, though, and crashes himself into a puddle. As stated earlier, nothing too significant about this scene, and it didn’t even give any clues for the upcoming Aquaman sequel.
8. Bruce gets info from Amanda Waller
What went nowhere in this post-credit scene from 2016’s Suicide Squad? Was it information about the identities of the Flash and Aquaman, hinting at a potential Justice League? Or was it how Amanda Waller and Bruce Wayne are making shady deals in secret? Probably the latter, since we never got to see the two interact again. While she revealed in Black Adam that she knows people like Superman, it is such a shame that we never got to see more of her interactions with the Justice League.
7. Flash vs. Superman race
This mid-credits scene from Joss Wheadon’s Justice League was a bit of a gag for casual fans who were curious to see who was faster of the two team members. It didn’t show who won, which is fair considering that it would have opened another can of worms amongst fans, but it did tease that Barry and Clark were close enough to do the race in the first place. Unfortunately, this friendship was not seen in The Flash, although it was reported that Henry Cavill was supposed to appear but was unfortunately removed in the editing room.
6. Shazam recruited into the Justice Society
It’s currently unknown if the Justice Society will make it to the DCU reboot, but if there was one thing that went nowhere, that is Shazam’s future. We got a tease of him being recognized by Waller to be part of the superhero team, but due to the reboot, we don’t know if that’s going to happen. That’s a shame since it would be cool to see him be part of a new group, especially since his family wants to do their own thing during the sequel, despite getting their powers back.
5. Mister Mind appears
Mister Mind’s first appearance in Shazam! teased that something big was going to happen. A small yet highly intelligent creature, it was able to conquer the Earth as seen in the comics, and teamed up with some of DC’s greatest villains like Lex Luthor. Mister Mind could have become one of DC’s underestimated villains, but became a gag instead during his second cameo in Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
4. Sinestro becomes a Yellow Lantern
In all honesty, the 2011 Green Lantern film wasn’t very good. And many can attest to this based on the poor ratings it received on Rotten Tomatoes. It did, however, teased a new threat, which was Sinestro becoming the new wielder of the Yellow Ring and turning him into a Yellow Lantern. Nothing more came out of the notorious box office disaster, let alone a reboot during Zack Snyder’s DCU. Fingers crossed that James Gunn’s Lanterns would make good on this tease, or even make it even better.
3. Lex recruits Deathstroke
Whether it’s the Zack Snyder version or the one in the Joss Whedon film, both teased that Deathstroke would become DC’s next villain. Obviously, he and Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor didn’t “form a league of their own” through the Legion of Doom, and Deathstroke didn’t become Ben Affleck’s next adversary. Fingers crossed there is still room for this bad guy in the upcoming reboot.
2. Lynda Carter’s Asteria introduced
Lynda Carter played Wonder Woman in the Wonder Woman TV series, and was teased at the end of Wonder Woman 1984 as Asteria, the former champion of the Amazons. This was such a huge wasted opportunity, to have a Wonder Woman veteran play a role in the DCU in a future film, only for it to be canceled. We rarely see DC alums appear again in the shared universe, and this was an opportunity that was squandered due to Warner Bros.’ decision-making.
1. Superman vs. Adam teased
This one probably annoyed a lot of fans the most. Before the release of Black Adam, it was teased numerous times that this DC anti-hero could change the hierarchy of power, and that he’s stronger than Superman. People wished these two would duke it out in a fight, and that this post-credit scene would confirm the return of Henry Cavill’s Superman after years of faceless cameos. Instead of a triumphant return, all we got was the heartbreaking news that Cavill would no longer play the Man of Steel in James Gunn’s DCU.
