The big bad bot himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, appears to have revealed a name change to the upcoming Terminator: Genesis, Paramount and Skydance’s update of the iconic sci-fi/action franchise. Unless there’s an inside joke on the set that we know nothing about, a new pic from Schwarzenegger’s Instagram account reveals that the film is now titled Terminator: Genisys.
The photo finds the star with his back to the camera, sitting in a chair with the official logo on its back. He tagged the Instagram account for the movie @TerminatorGenisys. His tweet linking to the photo was retweeted by Paramount’s verified Twitter account, suggesting that the new title is indeed legitimate.
The actor captioned the photo with the following thank you to the cast and crew of Genisys:
Hasta la vista, baby. I want to thank the cast and crew of @TerminatorGenisys for a fantastic shoot. It was challenging, it was fun, and it was rewarding. From our director to the producers, from the camera team to catering, from visual effects to hair and makeup – we couldn’t have done it without you. I can’t wait to see our finished project and I know we’ll remind the fans why they fell in love with the Terminator. On July 1, 2015, I’ll be back.
In addition to Schwarzenegger, Terminator: Genisys stars Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke as John Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese and Dayo Okeniyi as Danny Dyson, son of Terminator 2: Judgment Day player Miles Dyson (also in the cast but now played by Courtney B. Vance). Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith, Byung-Hung Lee, Sandrine Holt and J.K. Simmons all also have roles.
Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World, Game of Thrones) is directing from a script by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier, and Terminator: Genisys opens on July 1st next year.
