Casting for the main roles in Terminator: Genesis, Skydance and Paramount’s upcoming reboot of the iconic Terminator franchise, concluded last week when Dayo Okeniyi signed on for the role of Danny Dyson, the brilliant inventor son of Cyberdene Systems employee Miles Dyson (played by Joe Morton in Terminator 2: Judgment Day). Now, the producers are getting to work rounding out the cast with some supporting players.
Byung-hun Lee, known for his role as Storm Shadow (above) in the G.I. Joe films, has been cast in an unknown supporting part. Given his martial arts skills, I’d imagine that Terminator: Genesis will utilize him as either a soldier battling Cybernet or, in what would be a far more interesting role for the actor, as one of the new Terminators. Whatever role he ends up playing, Skydance is teasing that it will be “a doozy.” Let the speculation begin.
Mad Men‘s Michael Gladis and House of Cards‘ Sandrine Holt have also been cast in unrevealed supporting parts. I can’t even begin to imagine what role Gladis will take on, seeing as he’s typically drawn to period dramas and characters rooted in real history, but I could definitely see Holt serving as a love interest for John Connor (Jason Clarke). She certainly bears a striking similarity to Moon Bloodgood, who played a comparable part in the ill-fated Terminator Salvation.
The three actors join a cast led by Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke (as Sarah Connor), Zero Dark Thirty actor Jason Clarke (as John Connor), A Good Day to Die Hard actor Jai Courtney (as Kyle Reese), Spider-Man actor J.K. Simmons (in an undisclosed role) and, of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger, returning to play an aged version of his legendary Terminator. Thor: The Dark World helmer Alan Taylor directs.
Terminator: Genesis (which is still apparently a working title but seems solidified enough that it will probably stick) is due to arrive on July 1, 2015.
