Platinum Dunes have provided a brief update on two of the studio’s upcoming films: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 and the Friday the 13th reboot. First up, it’s understood the anthropomorphic teenagers will leapfrog back in front of the cameras in April, where filming will take place once again in New York City. As for the horror property, producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form — who are currently doing the rounds for Project Almanac — revealed that the retelling is still incubating in the early stages of development.
“Just working on the script still. Hoping to make that movie this year and Brad, I’m gonna confirm that Jason is in the movie.”
Considering that Form confirms that the creative team are still tinkering with the script, it seems unlikely that Friday the 13th will make its current release date of November 13. Whether this forces Platinum Dunes’ hand into delaying the slasher flick remains to be seen, but fans of the long-running, somewhat ailing franchise should be happy to hear that Jason will play a part in the film, despite rumors to the contrary.
Moving on to the studio’s other big-hitter, Fuller and Form touched upon Bebop and Rocksteady, with all signs pointing to the fan-favorite henchmen having a role in next year’s sequel.
“We designed and we did lots of work on all of them and then only so many fit in the box and luckily we have another chance to make another one of these movies and some of those characters that got cut out of the first one can make it into the second one. We’re in prep now. We start shooting in New York in April.”
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 looks set to make its release date of June 3, 2016. As for Friday the 13th, don’t be too surprised if Platinum Dunes opt to push the horror retelling from its scheduled November window.
