We rarely use the term ‘teaser’ and ‘artistry’ in the same breath, but the latest promotional footage for War For The Planet Of The Apes certainly warrants it. Organically building in menace and a sense of desperation, the brief snippet graciously and gradually reveals the iconic visage of Caesar. Though he is silent in appearance, the beautifully rendered imagery is overlaid with the character’s creepy dialogue from his previous franchise appearance.
From what we know so far, the third chapter in the rebooted series sees Caesar and his crew forced into conflict with the humans as the two fight in “an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.” Sounds like exciting stuff, and given that the first two instalments were excellent across the board, we certainly have high hopes for this one as well.
With Andy Serkis reprising his role as Caesar, War For The Planet Of The Apes also stars Judy Greer, Woody Harrelson, and Steve Zahn, among others, while writer-director Matt Reeves (Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes) also returns to direct. The script is co-written by Mark Bomback and, if the stunning artistry of this teaser trailer is anything to go by, audiences are in for something very special when the film is released in July 2017.
