Unbreakable, Split and now Glass, the third and presumably final installment in M. Night Shyamalan’s genre-bending trilogy.
It’s currently on course for a release in January of 2019, and ahead of San Diego Comic-Con, Universal has now shared a sneak peek of the first trailer for the director’s trilogy-capper. Unfortunately, there’s not really anything in the way of footage from the film itself here, but it places the focus on James McAvoy’s The Beast, last seen in Split, and it’s certainly a creepy tease of what’s to come.
What exactly is to come, you ask? Well, plot details remain under lock and key, but we do know that alongside McAvoy, Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Willis will also be reprising their roles as Mr. Glass and David Dunn, respectively. Also, it’s been reported that M. Night Shyamalan’s triumphant comeback story has wowed studio executives, with sources claiming that Universal has allotted a “more traditional” budget for Glass. That extra pool of resources will no doubt lend the director more leeway in the VFX department, and we’re fascinated to see what the final product will look like when all is said and done.
And though it may seem like a Shyamalan-infused gimmick, Glass is just bursting at the seams with potential, not least because it promises to explore the many personalities residing within the mind of Kevin Wendell Crumb – McAvoy told EW recently that “we get to spend some time with some new people that live inside Kevin.” Color us excited!
Plus, it’s just a nice novelty to see a superhero franchise that’s not based on a pre-existing property, giving the director far more freedom to do what he wants with his characters. Where he takes them next remains to be seen, but we’ll find out when Glass smashes into cinemas on January 18th, 2019.
